Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center
The Basics
Opened: 2021
Neighborhood: Russell
Self-description: “On what was once an uninhabitable brownfield now sits the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center, filling a void in the local, regional, national and international track-and-field community.”

The Voting Academy Says
“I feel most connected to the Russell neighborhood through the Sports and Learning Center. I have seen so many community members use this space for everything from track meets to a family dinner after a funeral. When I see senior citizens walking in the morning or young people playing soccer and football — that lifts my spirit. When the people working in red shirts — who, more often than not, live in the community — stop city officials to ask them to fix potholes or talk about other issues, it reminds me that this is an empowerment space.”

Slugger Field
The Basics
Opened: 2000
Neighborhood: Downtown
Self-description: “Charming ballpark on the bank of the Ohio River. Home of Louisville Bats baseball.”
Website: Slugger FieldBest of Louisville Stats

The Voting Academy Says
“Nothing better than baseball in the summertime. I’m a Cincinnati Reds hoper but prefer the ballpark experience of a Louisville Bats game right here at home. I like the second deck, above first or third, depending on the sunshine and shade. And mark me down for three hot dogs on discount days. I generally glop on a little ketchup and relish, and always bring my own packets of Gulden’s mustard.”
