The Voting Academy Says

There are fancier ice cream shops in Louisville, with bespoke flavors that would undoubtedly win out in a taste test. But Dairy Del and Dairy Kastle, just one mile apart in the St. Joseph and Schnitzelburg neighborhoods, are cherished neighborhood institutions that continue to evolve slowly — adding vegan options or cashless payment — without ever forsaking their simple charms. Every year, Dairy Del’s opening marks the true start of Greater Germantown’s summer. Their Boston and strawberry cheesecake shakes are unparalleled. I am glad that Louisville continues to innovate within its ice cream scene — we’re no San Francisco, but we do OK — but I am equally grateful that we aren’t always so fast to tear down our affordable, intergenerational family- and dog-friendly spaces.
